Style Selector

The ThemeMyDatabase style Selector provides an easy to use interface to select almost any color or visual attribute of forms and controls and allows for the easy creation or selection of a saved style. Selections are displayed instantly on the sample form making it easy to see the combination of colors and effects.
While using the Selector database DO NOT attempt to change Themes or Themed fonts using the standard Access menus.

Styles Tab

The Styles Tab shows predefined styles and any styles you create making it easy to compare what different settings will look like. The name of the associated theme is shown.

The names of the Header and Footer fonts are shown in the relevant fonts. There is an indication whether fonts are Themed or not. (See Fonts below for more detail)

To create a new style, first select the existing style that nearest matches your requirements then click.

Enter the requested details then modify settings as required.

Themes Tab

The Themes tab shows a list of the named Themes on your system with a sample of each color and font. Microsoft provided 38 Themes with Access 2010, but provided only 8 different themes with Access 2013 and 9 with 2016. Each version has the Predefined Office Theme. if you don't like the appearance of the Fonts associated with the theme the themes Tab gives access to a Font selector form to choose alternatives.

Advanced Tab

The central section of the Advanced tab is the color picker. Microsoft's color picker allows only 5 variations on each of the main theme colors, that hides the reality of there being 100 lighter variations and 100 darker variations for each theme color. ThemeMyDatabase gives you easy access to all the variations with instant display on the Sample form.

Applying colors to Sections and Controls

Colors can be applied to any combination of sections, often with a light Detail section with a slightly darker Header and Footer. By making a selection the sample form gives instant visual feedback.
If the Control Toggle is pressed then a list of available control types will appear.

The example shows Command Buttons selected for the Detail Section. Command Buttons have the greatest range of Color options, including a Hover Background and Hover Foreground. In addition Shapes & Effects are available.

Shape & Effect

If a control has Shapes or Effects then clicking the option will dislay a form allowing selections. From the Shapes form multiple settings can be made with an Apply button showing the overall result on the sample form.

Static Fonts

Static Fonts are fonts that contain symbols that will not change. Two common examples are

Marlett characters are typically used in Column headings for Up and down arrows.

On the advanced tab click

After selecting the Font the property options will display

The sample form will show the selected options.

Processing will determine the Static Font usage and apply properties accordingly.

Datasheets

Datasheet forms have their own specific properties which are accessible on a form opened by clicking.

If datasheet fonts are themed then the size of the row will change depending on the Font. If a fixed number of rows are required then the font should be fixed. properties other than colours are easily understood. Once a selection is made then

Fonts - Options

Themes have an associated pair of fonts:- Header and Detail. When a theme is changed the fonts will change to a different pair. The font names and samples can be seen on the right of the Themes tab. It is highly likely that the Font selected do not satisfy your requirements. ThemeMyDatabase offers two alternatives for this situation

  • Fixing the fonts

  • Creating a new theme.

  • The font pairs that are used in Themes are shown.

    Clicking a line in the list will show the selected fonts below. They can bee seen in the sample form by clicking.

    To fix the fonts for the current style click.

    If a new Theme is reqiured click

    When the save dialog opens DO NOT make changes Just Click ok. You will receive a message confirming that the new theme has been saved to the current style.
